The Heinineva solar park officially began electricity production on Thursday, April 24th, with its first panel blocks. Continuous electricity production began after Fingrid granted a temporary operating permit for the start of production.
On the first day of operation, the solar power plant produced up to 27 megawatts of electricity for the power grid. EPV Aurinkovoima’s Managing Director Ari Soininen describes the start of electricity production as a significant milestone in the completion of the park.
“The successful start of production has required long-term preparations in addition to the progress of construction work. This is a great moment for everyone involved in the project, who are participating for the first time in building a large-scale domestic solar park,” says Soininen.
The installation of solar panels, which began last autumn, has progressed at a good pace, with the installed panels already covering over 60 percent of the 120-hectare park. A total of approximately 123,000 panels will be installed in the park.
A significant portion of the project is already ready for production. Soininen believes that production can be increased in the near future as installations progress.
“In the future, our control room operations will also be more involved now that we have started production with the first panel blocks. Thus, planning and forecasting production will become increasingly important in the operation of the Heinineva park. We will gradually start production with the first blocks and bring the next blocks into use as they become ready for production.”
Electricity production across the entire park will begin in late 2025. Commercial production is planned to start in early 2026.
The Heinineva solar power project has been granted funding from the European Union’s NextGenerationEU recovery and resilience plan (RRF). The total size of the project is 64.5 million euros.
